A rewarding volunteer opportunity awaits those who wish to provide compassion and warmth by assisting patients and their family members at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Under the UCLA Department of Volunteer Services, volunteers in the prestigious and award-winning Ambassador program serve as guides to visitors, answer questions and act as concierges as needed. "We are seeking individuals with strong customer service and communication skills and a willingness to go that 'extra step' in assisting our visitors and patients at the medical center," said Carey McCarthy, volunteer coordinator at UCLA Medical Center. For interested individuals, an informational tea will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at UCLA Medical Center. For more information, or to make a reservation, please call the Volunteer Office at (310) 825-6001.To qualify for the Ambassador program, volunteers must complete a special training session and be able to volunteer once a week for four hours. Volunteers will be required to walk around the hospital and push wheelchairs, if necessary, and will also wear a special blazer provided by the hospital.
