UCLA Medical Group again earns top rating for patient care capabilities

The UCLA Medical Group has again earned the highest rating possible in an annual survey conducted by CAPG, an association representing physician organizations in 38 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

UCLA earned five stars in the report, which assesses health care systems’ tools for delivering better patient experience and better population health, as well as overall affordability.

“The UCLA Medical Group is proud of our five-star ranking from CAPG” said Dr. Samuel A. Skootsky, chief medical officer of the UCLA Faculty Practice and Medical Group.  “We continuously evaluate ourselves to improve upon our capabilities in delivering exemplary, accountable and coordinated care.”

The Standards of Excellence survey is a voluntary, critical self-assessment administered by CAPG and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. UCLA was one of 98 eight medical groups participating in the 2015 assessment.

The report evaluated health systems on six criteria:

  • Care management practices
  • Information technology
  • Accountability and transparency
  • Patient-centered care
  • Group support of advanced primary care
  • Administrative and financial capability

“Through the results of this latest survey, physician organizations have made their voice heard that they are fully engaged in changing how patients receive care for the better,” said Dr. Amy Nguyen Howell, CAPG’s chief medical officer. “They’re committed to making the patient-centered medical neighborhood a reality across the entire spectrum of health care practices nationwide.”

UCLA Health, which comprises the UCLA Hospital System and the UCLA Medical Group and its affiliates, has provided a high quality of health care and the most advanced treatment options to the people of the greater Los Angeles region and the world for more than half a century. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, and UCLA Health - Santa Monica Medical Center (which includes the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital) deliver hospital care that is unparalleled in California. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is consistently ranked one of the top five hospitals in the nation and the best in the western United States by U.S. News and World Report.
