UCLA Health earned 2020 College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Digital Health Most Wired recognition in Level 9 for both Acute and Ambulatory categories.

The mission of the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program is to elevate the health and health care of communities around the world through the optimal use of information technology. This is the eighth consecutive year that UCLA Health has received these performance excellence awards.

"We're proud to receive this recognition as a nod to the incredible work involved with advancing the health technology offerings of our organization," says Michael Pfeffer, MD, assistant vice chancellor and chief information officer, UCLA Health and associate clinical professor of medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

The annual survey is designed to identify and recognize health care organizations that exemplify best practices through their adoption, implementation and use of information technology.

"Our teams are engaged in delivering 24/7 robust, secure solutions, and we are very honored by this recognition of their dedication and collaboration with our caregivers," says Bill Lazarus, chief technology officer, Information Services & Solutions.

A total of 30,091 organizations were represented in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired program, which this year included four separate surveys: domestic, ambulatory, long-term care and international. The surveys assessed the adoption, integration and impact of technologies in health care organizations at all stages from early development to industry leading.

Each participating organization received a customized benchmarking report, an overall score and scores for individual levels in eight segments:

  • Infrastructure
  • Security
  • Business/disaster recovery
  • Administrative/supply chain
  • Analytics/data management
  • Interoperability/population health
  • Patient engagement
  • Clinical quality/safety

Participants can use the report and scores to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Participants also received certification based on their overall performance, with level 10 being the highest.

"This award shines the spotlight on the creativity and ingenuity of our IT teams in developing innovative technology solutions in support of UCLA Health's mission: healing humankind, one patient at a time," says Jeanne Markland, chief of enterprise applications, Information Services & Solutions.

This is the third year CHIME has conducted the survey and overseen the program. For more information, visit the program here.
