Fatigue Mitigation Transportation Program

Cafeteria Allowances

Residents receive meal cards at all sites where they rotate. At sites where there is no available food during nights or weekends residents are able to get meals through the Uber Eats GME account.

Reference Materials

Residents have access to UCLA's vast and comprehensive library, including many online services and journals that are accessible from home.

Educational Fund

Residents have access to an educational fund ($500 for R1 year, $1000 for each subsequent year) to help pay for approved educational items including laptops, textbooks, and supplies. Required educational fees (for example, medical license, Step 3, and Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery) are funded by the hospital or department.

Resident Union

UCLA residents can join the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR), the largest housestaff union in the United States. Benefits recently won by the union at UCLA include a 12% salary increase over 3 years, a $1000/month housing stipend, a health savings account for insurance copays, reimbursement for Step 3 and medical licensing fees, free Uber rides home when fatigued, $3000 annually on meal cards at UCLA, work iPhones, free uniforms (white coats and Patagonia jackets), and various protections and accommodations. Learn more >
