eHealth: Medicare Plan Options Made Simple

Medicare-eligible patients

UCLA Health is collaborating with eHealth Insurance, who offers a free service to help you find the Medicare coverage that's right for you – and accepted by your UCLA Health doctors. Speak with a licensed insurance agent at eHealthMedicare.com, a non-government website, or enroll in a plan online.

Medicare Annual Election Period

Medicare's Annual Election Period (AEP), also known as Open Enrollment, runs from October 15 through December 7. This is your yearly opportunity to review your current Medicare options and make any desired changes. These changes will take effect on January 1 of the following year.

New to Medicare / Initial Enrollment Period

When you first become eligible for Medicare, you have an Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) that allows you to enroll in the Medicare coverage of your choice. This enrollment period starts three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birth month, and ends three months after your birth month.

If you miss this period, you may incur monetary penalties and your access to certain types of Medicare coverage could be restricted. We encourage you to take advantage of our collaboration with eHealth to help you navigate your various options during your Initial Enrollment Period.

Enrollment in a plan may be limited to certain times of year unless you qualify for a special election/enrollment period or you are in your Medicare Initial Election Period.
