Breast pumps and other lactation aids:

While in the hospital, we will give you all the help and tools you need to breastfeed.  You do not need to bring a pump to the hospital.

Breast pumps and other lactation aids for at home use are covered under your health plan’s contract for durable medical equipment (DME).

How do I get a breast pump:

Your provider can write a prescription and/or referral verifying your medical need for a breast pump. Click here for more.

Note: Not all health plans require a prescription

  1. Call health plan for list of DME Providers.  The number is listed on the back of your health plan card
  2. Obtain prescription / referral from provider, if needed
  3. Learn about breast pumps, before ordering

When to order a breast pump?

Some health plans allow you to order a breast pump before you deliver and some do not. Contact your health plan to learn about their policy. It’s important for you to know this information before you come to the hospital. You may need a pump when you go home. Some DMEs are only open during weekday hours.
