Varina Clark

Varina Clark Onwunyi, MD

Hometown: Mt. Vernon, NY
Undergraduate: Brown University
Medical School: UCLA
Why UCLA: I chose UCLA Chronic Pain Fellowship for its multidisciplinary, comprehensive and culturally competent training in pain management. Our robust approaches to providing chronic pain care to vulnerable patient populations will serve as an invaluable experience in my career, and I am grateful for the continued mentorship and sponsorship as I continue to grow professionally and personally as a future interventional pain specialist.

Dr. Clark loves spending time with her beautiful daughter. Whether it's dancing to toddler tunes, bedtime tickles or walks on the beach, every special moment makes her feel like the most blessed mother in the world!

Jennifer Huynhmai Luong, MD

Jennifer Huynhmai Luong, MD

Hometown: Anaheim, CA
Undergraduate: UCLA
Medical School: Virginia Commonwealth University SOM
Why I chose UCLA: A one year fellowship can fly by, so I wanted to train at a program where I was confident I would get a diverse and high volume of experiences to prepare me to practice independently. Being closer to home was also a bonus!

When not taking care of patients, Dr. Luong loves being outside. You can find her at Santa Monica beach or on a hiking trail. She recently hiked Half Dome with her husband and is excited to explore the local Malibu trails.

Hayk Manuk-Hakobyan, MD

Hayk Manuk-Hakobyan, MD

Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Undergraduate: UCLA
Medical School: Georgetown University School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose the pain fellowship at UCLA because it offers an exciting blend of high clinical volume and cutting-edge interventional procedures. Growing up in sunny California and attending college at UCLA, I always felt connected with the community and the patients we serve.

Dr. Hayk Hakobyan is an avid traveler who loves exploring new cultures and cuisines. In his free time, he enjoys taking workout classes, skiing, and hiking with his beloved husky.

Joshua Elyahu Sadik, MD

Joshua Elyahu Sadik, MD

Hometown: Los Angeles via Virgina Beach
Undergraduate: UCLA
Medical School: David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Why I chose UCLA: Incredible mentors and teachers we get to work with and a breadth of experience.

Dr. Sadik is a fan of many a racket-ed sport: tennis, ping pong, racquetball (still open to giving pickleball a chance). He loves exploring the countless places a day's reach from LA: Big Bear, Santa Barbara, Sequoia and Yosemite to name a few. Having a cup of matcha reading Jewish literature sounds like a beautiful morning to him.

Karan Sethi, MD, MBA

Karan Sethi, MD, MBA

Hometown: New Delhi, India --> Chapel Hill, NC
Undergraduate: North Carolina State University
Graduate: Brandeis Heller School for Social Policy and Management
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA for its culture of clinical excellence, diverse patient population, and high volume of complex procedures. The program's innovative, multidisciplinary approach to pain management offers unmatched preparation for both current practices and future technological advances. I was also drawn to the program's warm, expert faculty and the constant Southern California sunshine doesn't hurt either!

Dr. Sethi has a strong interest in leadership development and mentorship. During residency, he focused on supporting anesthesia trainees by helping to create multiple scholarships for those interested in advocacy and leadership so they could attend relevant ASA events. He developed formal leadership tracks for both my residency program and state anesthesia society and relaunched the New England Anesthesia Resident Conference in 2024 to support education, networking and collaboration among medical students and anesthesiology trainees. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, exploring beaches, spending time outdoors, and occasionally adopting a lemur (or three)!
