When residents and fellows graduate from the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, they become our alumni. We value that connection, and want it to continue for life! Our alumni are not only our friends and colleagues; you are a valuable resource for networking and mentorship for our upcoming residents and fellows.

We encourage all our alumni to stay in touch, and let us stay in contact with you by updating your contact information: email address, phone number, mailing address and changes to your name, if applicable. Contact us via email [email protected]. We also hope you will let us know what you have been doing – personally and professionally – by sending in news, updates, and photos to feature in our department newsletter, The DAPM Handoff.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, or are in town for a visit, we hope you'll take time to visit! You are always welcome at our Grand Rounds presentations, each Wednesday morning at 7 am in Room B-130 at Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Our resident teaching conferences take place each Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 pm; if you'd like to attend one, please contact the program director, Dr. Jack Buckley, at [email protected]. Residents and fellows value time to get acquainted with alumni, and they would enjoy speaking with you about your perspectives on the field of anesthesiology and your experiences in practice.

We offer myriad opportunities for continuing medical education that we hope will be of practical as well as academic use to you. The UCLA Simulation Center hosts a one-day simulation course in anesthesia crisis management that may help you meet future MOCA® requirements.

Our annual Acute Care and Perioperative Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop is a valuable continuing education resource for anesthesiologists. And we always hope you will join us at the UCLA Anesthesiology reception held every year at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

We want to extend special thanks to our alumni who continue to support our endeavors with generous donations. We are deeply grateful to Leonard Walts, MD, who trained generations of UCLA residents, and has recently made a remarkably generous gift to support the continued academic growth of the program. Over the past ten years, state educational appropriations to the University of California system have fallen more than $1 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars. From 2003 to 2015, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) lost 22 percent of their capacity to fund research. Despite these challenges, with the generosity of our donors, our innovative work will continue to flourish.

Your donation may be directed toward the educational program for residents and fellows, toward the research program of your choice, or toward a general fund to be directed to the area of greatest need at the Chair's discretion. You may also choose to honor a family member, a current or retired faculty members, or anyone you wish by selecting the "Tribute Gift" option. Your donation will enable UCLA-trained physician anesthesiologists and scientists to continue to be among the best in the world, and your generosity will help to assure safe, compassionate, personalized care for every UCLA patient.

Donate online, or donate by mail or phone. Thank you!
