Dr. Ana Daugherty

 

Dr. Ana Daugherty

 Dr. Daugherty is from Mexico City. During medical school, she participated in medical missions both locally and in remote rural communities, which gave her a solid understanding of the challenges that patients experience in accessing healthcare. These experiences enabled her to become an advocate for patients and confirmed her interest in Family Medicine. 

In 2019, she immigrated to the U.S., and prepared herself for a Family Medicine residency training. She is currently the medical director for Church Family Missions and will travel to Honduras in April 2023 to head the yearly medical outreach, which serves rural and underserved communities. 

Professional Interests: Providing care to underserved communities with an emphasis on Integrative Medicine and end-of-life care

Outside of Medicine: Ana enjoys playing the piano, watercolor painting and training her golden retriever puppy as a therapy dog.

 


Dr. Kayvon Dehghanian

 

Dr. Kayvon Dehghanian

Shiraz University of Medical Sciences

Dr. Dehghanian was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Shiraz, the cultural capital of Iran. He attended Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, where his passion for primary care was ignited. During medical school, he cared for the underserved as part of a charity health center, and after graduating in the top quartile of his class, he immigrated to the United States to pursue a career in Family Medicine.

Dr. Dehghanian was accepted into the UCLA International Medical Graduate Program where he provided patient-centered care to people of all ages and backgrounds. He saw how the social determinants of health impacted health outcomes which solidified his interest in becoming a family physician.

Professional Interests: His goal as a resident is to provide equitable healthcare with an emphasis on immigrant, refugee, and migrant health.

Outside of Medicine: Kayvon plays soccer and trains at the gym. He also enjoys reading business and finance books in his spare time.


Dr. Natalia Henriquez Soto

 

Dr. Natalia Henriquez Soto

Dr. Natalia Henriquez Soto was born and raised in Santiago, Chile. During medical school, she trained in both public and private healthcare settings where resources widely differed and taught her the importance of utilizing resource wisely.  After graduation, she practiced as a primary care physician in Chile, taking care of patients who had suffered work-related accidents. 

She left Chile to pursue a career in the U.S. in the specialty of Family Medicine. Her goal is to use her knowledge to provide comprehensive primary care to families in need.

In preparing for Match 2023, Dr. Henriquez completed post-graduate training at the UCLA International Medical Graduate Program. She participated in clinical clerkships where she interacted with a diverse patient population, many of whom struggled with poverty and inequities in access to health care.

Professional Interests: Dr. Henriquez is passionate about helping her patients preserve and improve their health through diet, exercise and social support. She is interested in the development of public policy that promotes equitable access to healthcare. 

Outside of Medicine: She enjoys exercising at the gym, running, reading, and going on long walks with her loved ones.


Dr. Cristina Lee

University of Buenos Aires, Argentina 

 Dr. Lee was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and graduated from University of Buenos Aires Medical School. As medical student, she volunteered in a very low-income neighborhood. She found the community work to be a positive learning experience and personally fulfilling.

After finishing medical school, she left Argentina to pursue a Family Medicine residency in the U.S. While preparing for residency training, she worked as a clinical research coordinator in the Department of Oncology at the University of Southern California.  

Professional interests: Providing evidence-based, cost-effective medicine for underserved communities.  

Outside of Medicine: She enjoys spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities, and traveling. She also loves animals, especially dogs. 


Dr. Karel Reyes Bacardi

 

Dr. Karel Reyes Bacardi

Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana

Dr. Reyes Bacardi was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. He graduated with honors from the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana. After completing medical school, he was assigned to a humanitarian medical mission in Honduras. 

Later, he immigrated to the U.S. and began working as clinical research coordinator in South Florida. While there, he learned about health disparities facing Florida’s monolingual Spanish communities. These experiences fueled his commitment to become a family physician and advocate for the underserved.

Professional Interests: Providing care to underserved communities with an emphasis on population health including the LGBTQ+ community and patients with HIV. He is interested in global and reproductive health.  

Outside of Medicine:  Karel enjoys traveling, going to the gym, spending time with his loved ones, community service, watching movies and dancing.


Dr. Katherine Ruiz Soto

 

Dr. Katherine Ruiz Soto

Universidad Central de Venezuela - Escuela Jose Maria Vargas.

Dr. Katherine Ruiz Soto was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. During medical school, she participated in numerous medical missions within indigenous and underserved communities. Following her social service, she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

After residency, she immigrated to the U.S. where she worked as a certified medical assistant providing care to all ages. She is a proud graduate of the UCLA International Medical Graduate Program, where she learned that addressing social determinants of health is very important for improving health outcomes and for reducing health disparities. She looks forward to a career where she will serve vulnerable populations in California. She is a faithful believer in primary care.

Professional Interests: Providing care to underserved communities with an emphasis on women’s health and preventive medicine. She is also interested in improving diabetes and the medical management of obesity. 

Outside of Medicine: She enjoys swimming, hiking, camping, traveling, going to the gym and Zumba.


Dr. Emanuel Salcedo

 

Dr. Emanuel Salcedo

Universidad Ricardo Palma, Peru

Dr. Salcedo was born in Lima, Peru but due to hardships in his home country, he moved to Southern California as a child. While growing up, he participated in medical missions with his family. These experiences motivated him to attend medical school at Ricardo Palma University.  

After medical school, he returned to the U.S. to prepare for residency training while working as a licensed Spanish interpreter. This unique opportunity allowed him to continue serving his community and participate as member of the healthcare team.

His goal is to continue to be a face which represents diversity and confronts health disparities for all those in need. In addition, his podcast and involvement in the local community helps encourage and motivate the next generation of Hispanic physicians. 

Professional Interests: Community and HIV Medicine

Outside of Medicine: He enjoys hosting a podcast called “You Have Matched” which he hopes to encourage international medical graduates to navigate the USMLE process. He also enjoys coaching and spending time with his family.


Dr. Carlos A. Ramirez Fernández

 

Dr. Carlos A. Ramirez Fernández

Dr. Carlos A. Ramirez Fernandez was born in Guatemala and graduated from the University San Carlos of Guatemala. 

Prior to graduation, he and his wife implemented a basic medical training for midwives. Later, they opened a medical clinic in a rural area in Guatemala. He had the honor of serving the community for more than five years before moving to the United States. He and his wife have been pursuing their medical careers while raising three wonderful children. 

Professional Interests: Dr. Ramirez is very interested in providing care for under-resourced communities

Outside of Medicine:  He enjoys karaoke night with his family, exercising, watching movies and    learning about different cultures.


Dr. Javier Torres

Dr. Torres was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Venezuela. He graduated from the Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela. He grew up in a small, low-income town and this prompted him from an early age to become involved in community work. This work motivated him to apply to medical school where he participated in several community activities specifically in remote areas where health care was not accessible. Consequently, he learned the importance of access to health care and health education, especially in underserved areas.

Dr. Torres returned to the U.S. to prepare for residency training in Family Medicine. He has enjoyed his research assistant at the University of Illinois. He is a proud graduate of the UCLA International Medical Graduate Program where he worked in underserved areas with patients of diverse cultures and different socioeconomic backgrounds.

Professional Interests: Community based care including Street Medicine, Border Medicine and Global Health.

Outside of Medicine:  Dr. Torres enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending time with his dog Oka.
