Laboratories in the UCLA Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine conduct vital research that breaks new ground and leads to new therapies in pulmonary vascular disease, lung cancer, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute lung injury, iron disorders and much more. The division has a strong track record of work that improves the quality of palliative care, such as through the 3 Wishes Program.

3 Wishes Program
A palliative care initiative in which clinicians elicit and implement final wishes for patients who are unfortunately imminently dying.
Belperio Lab
We continue to treat patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), sarcoidosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis and lung transplantation.

We are a group of research scientists dedicated to Improving the diagnosis of iron disorders, understanding iron's role in health and disease, and developing better treatments for iron disorders.

Lung Integrative AI and Omics Lab
The Lung Integrative AI & Omics Laboratory integrates multi-omics, imaging, and clinical data using AI to understand, diagnose, and treat chronic respiratory diseases, with a focus on sarcoidosis and interstitial lung disease.

Shackelford Lab
We study the intersection of signal transduction and metabolism in cancer in order to identify the molecular and metabolic basis of tumorigenesis.
