Conjunctivitis is a group of diseases that results in inflammation of the mucus membrane that covers the white of the eye and the inner lining of the eyelids. It is usually caused by a viral infection but can also result from bacterial infection, allergy, environmental irritants, eye drops and other eye products. Some forms are highly contagious and can spread from one person to another. If left untreated, some forms of conjunctivitis can cause corneal inflammation and result in loss of vision..
