Continuing Nursing Education

UCLA offers significant opportunities for unique educational experiences, no matter what level of experience you have or type of education you are seeking. Some of our programs include:

CNE

The Department of Nursing Research & Education (NRE) proudly supports the professional development of UCLA nurses across our multi-system organization. Educational offerings at UCLA Health range from large conferences to small, unit-based classes.

Continuing Nursing Education: The UCLA Way

“The UCLA Way” nursing education programs are tailored programs featuring a curriculum that all UCLA Health nurses receive as part of their onboarding and training. These courses provide international nurses insight into UCLA’s nursing department and standards of care. Program curriculum is customized to help nurses master the challenges of advances in treatment, healthcare delivery systems, new technologies, and patient acuity. The courses are specific to different specialty units and include sessions that address leadership, patient outcomes, and professionalism. Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation after completion of the program.  For more information regarding “The UCLA Way” nursing education program, please contact IntlEdu@mednet.ucla.edu.

Online Courses:

Through a membership model, our international partners will be able to access our International Distance Learning Program through our secure platform, Cornerstone. These online courses range from instructional modules featuring clinical procedures to step-by-step procedures and advising content in disciplines such as nursing, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy. For more information regarding access to the International Distance Learning Program, please contact IntlEdu@mednet.ucla.edu.

Nursing Simulation Education:

The Nursing Simulation Education Program (NSEP) provides an opportunity for practicing nurses to apply knowledge and skills in a safe learning environment. The NSEP uses a variety of modalities, such as high-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, and standardized patients to optimize the achievement of expected learning outcomes. Subject matter experts develop scenarios that simulate real-life clinical situations to address the needs of individual units and to increase the validity of the simulation.

Examples of Simulation-Based Courses are TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety, an interdisciplinary team-based approach to clinical care), Simulation Instructor Training, Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nursing Simulation, Safe Patient Handling, and Neonatal Resuscitation.

The mission of the NSEP is to provide advanced education for professional nurses on current patient safety concerns, to assist with developing new competencies, and to promote self-confidence through experiential learning. The NSEP supports the mission of UCLA Health in the delivery of leading-edge patient care.

Clinical nurses can participate in NSEP or other clinical training programs. The program curriculum will be tailored to meet the nurses’ needs and can be customized to include nursing observerships. Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation after completion of the program.
