UCLA Health’s hospitals and clinics have placed among the nation’s leaders in utilizing technology to improve the quality of patient care.

UCLA Health earned a “Most Wired” designation for the 6th consecutive year and ranked in the top 10 in an annual survey conducted by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). The survey, previously administered by the American Hospital Association, was released this month.

More than 640 organizations representing 2,190 hospitals from nine countries submitted surveys. Only 254 organizations received the Most Wired designation.

The survey measures foundational technologies, such as data security, integration and interoperability, and also key areas of organizations’ strategic application of transformational technologies to benefit patients.

UCLA Health is investing in advanced information systems to better connect with other health care providers to enable a more seamless patient experience.  UCLA Health’s comprehensive electronic health record system allows patients to communicate with caregivers, access test results, request prescription refills, and manage appointments through the myUCLAhealth patient portal. The system also generates data on outcomes that are used to adjust treatment plans.

Dr. Michael Pfeffer, UCLA Health Chief Information Officer and Assistant Vice Chancellor for UCLA Health Sciences, praised the commitment of information technology personnel.

“Members of the UCLA Health Information Technology organization are dedicated and compassionate in their unwavering focus on our patients and our community,” Pfeffer said. “Our work requires not only that our platforms and solutions be reliable and secure but also the nimbleness and creativity to adapt technologies to enhance care. That is achievable only by having outstanding, smart people in IT and strong partnerships throughout UCLA Health.”

UCLA Health includes four hospitals on two campuses — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical CenterUCLA Medical Center, Santa MonicaUCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital; and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA — and more than 170 clinics throughout Southern California. It also includes the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
