Nursing Certification

The Certified Nurse demonstrates the knowledge, skill and attitude associated with outstanding patient care.  UCLA Health and the Department of Nursing are committed to supporting all nurses to achieve their specialty certification through various methods of educational and financial support. 

What is certification?

  • Evidence of a nurse's ability to provide excellent care beyond the scope of basic RN licensure
  • Demonstrated by passing a standardized, national exam
  • Specialty specific
  • Identified by credentials (e.g. RN-BC, CCRN, CEN, OCN, etc.)
  • Awarded by the relevant national nursing professional organization (e.g. ANCC, AACN, BCEN, ONS, etc.)
