Multifetal Gestation: Twin Vaginal Delivery Service

UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology specializes in the care of complex multi-fetal gestations, including twins and higher order multiples.  Our expert obstetricians and maternal-fetal medicine subspecialists work together cohesively to ensure the health of our patients and their fetuses, utilizing state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment and techniques as medically indicated.

Conditions we treat and procedures we perform in pregnancy:

  • Dichorionic twins
  • Monochorionic-diamniotic twins
  • Monochorionic-monoamniotic twins
  • Conjoined twins
  • Twin-reversed arterial perfusion syndrome
  • Higher-order multiple gestations
  • Selective multifetal reduction procedures
  • Twin vaginal breech extraction in appropriate candidates

Our Team

Our twin vaginal delivery service members screen patients, in conjunction with our general obstetrics service, to determine which patients are the most appropriate candidates for vaginal delivery, particularly when a breech extraction of Twin B is anticipated. The members of this dedicated team are:

  • Yalda Afshar, MD, PhD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Tina Nguyen, MD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Ilina Pluym, MD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Rashmi Rao, MD, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine
