Precision Health

Available Data and Biosamples

The UCLA ATLAS Community Health Initiative represents a unique, diverse collection of clinical and genomic data from patients across the UCLA Health system. As of  February 2026, more than 400,811 patients across UCLA Health have been consented. The overall opt-in rate is 64%. Over 113,726 samples have been successfully genotyped and uploaded to the cloud for researchers’ access. Please review Guidelines for Utilizing Universal Consent and Precision Health Data and Samples in Clinical Studies for any potential collaboration with IPH.

Data Request

As part of the Institute for Precision Health ATLAS data release, users will receive access to a secure research environment through ULEAD, where they can interact with de-identified ATLAS data (genomic and EHR), development and processing virtual machines (VMs), storage, software, and code. This is a self service platform intended for users with bioinformatics expertise.

The current ATLAS release includes summarized data files, Jupyter notebook profiling templates, an ATLAS code repository, and biobank patient microarray and whole exome data (VCFs and PLINK files). The High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment is accessed via SSH clients and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) within ULEAD and runs on AlmaLinux with a centrally managed Slurm scheduler. Cluster-wide software modules are available, allowing users to quickly load preconfigured packages, such as sqlcmd for direct access to the de-identified EHR clinical database. Curated releases are version-controlled to ensure reproducibility and transparency. Each release includes accompanying documentation. Access to these integrated clinical and genomic datasets is available to all UCLA-approved investigators in accordance with institutional governance and IRB requirements. See below for available datasets.

Sample Request

Requests for DNA samples from participants in ATLAS will undergo an evaluation process, overseen by the IPH Scientific Review Committee (SRC), comprised of content expert members of the IPH Executive Committee and ad hoc faculty, as needed. Researchers that want to access deidentified DNA samples must submit a Sample Request Form to the IPH. Upon approval, the investigator submitting the request will be contacted by the IPH to initiate the sample request protocol in collaboration with TPCL. TPCL will facilitate the distribution of deidentified DNA samples to the investigator. However, for identified or coded samples, TPCL will only provide samples to investigators who have a valid IRB approved project that specifies the use of ATLAS samples for their research. All researchers are required to submit their IRB approval letter to TPCL for review.

UCLA PI will be charged a nominal fee for processing services. Please contact Dr. Clara Magyar - [email protected] for more details.
