The Basic and Clinical Sciences Course is one of the core components of the educational curriculum for ophthalmology residents. The Course is open to ophthalmologists in the community who want a good review the fundamentals of ophthalmology. Sections of the American Academy of Ophthalmology book series of the same name are presented in a three-year cycle. Scheduled on Wednesday mornings from 7:00am pm to 8:00am during the academic year, the Basic and Clinical Science Course is held in the Center for Health Sciences.


American Academy of Ophthalmology Basic and Clinical Science Course books covered in the educational program:

  • Section 1: Update on General Medicine
  • Section 2: Fundamentals and Principles of Ophthalmology
  • Section 3: Optics, Refraction and Contact Lenses
  • Section 4: Ophthalmic Pathology and Intraocular Tumors
  • Section 5: Neuro-Ophthalmology
  • Section 6: Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
  • Section 7: Orbit, Eyelids and Lacrimal System
  • Section 8: External Disease and Cornea
  • Section 9: Intraocular Inflammation and Uveitis
  • Section 10: Glaucoma
  • Section 11: Lens and Cataract
  • Section 12: Retina and Vitreous
