Reduced vision can be a symptom of any visual impairment that makes performing daily tasks more difficulty (eg, reading, writing, watching television, driving, shopping, recognizing faces).

Reduced vision is often associated with a number of other symptoms, including blurred vision, distortion and night vision problems. Causes of reduced vision may vary from less serious conditions such as nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia), which can easily be treated with eyeglasses, to chronic conditions for which there are no treatments, such as age-related macular degeneration.

For patients with reduced vision that cannot be improved with medical and surgical options, vision rehabilitation can greatly improve quality of life by helping patients better utilize the vision they do have.
