The below information is only for recently accepted care extender volunteers. The required CPR certification is the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. This is the only CPR certification that is acceptable; we do not accept Red Cross, Heartsaver, or First Aid certifications. Online CPR classes are not accepted; all courses must be completed in an in-person classroom.
There are 3 ways you can obtain the correct CPR certification:
FOR UCLA STUDENTS ONLY, through the CPR & First Aid Program at UCLA
No matter which class you attend, you must submit a copy of the front & back of your signed CPR card. A copy of the front and back of your signed card must be submitted with the rest of your required documentation on Check-in Day on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
I completed the class recently. I do not have my card yet but can get a letter saying I did the class already. Is this good enough?
No, we need a copy of your CPR card so that you can be cleared to volunteer.
My CPR card expires a month after the new rotation, will this be accepted?
Your CPR card needs to be valid until at least 6 months after the start of the new rotation. You are responsible for renewing your certification before it expires.
Do I have to send a copy of my CPR card even if I'm taking the class being held through the CE program?
Yes, you still need to submit a copy of your card with the rest of your required paperwork by the health requirements deadline.
