Neuroscience series LAUSD

UCLA-LAUSD Neuroscience Education Series for High School Students

The UCLA Neurosurgery department has partnered with the LAUSD – CTE (Career Technical Education Section) to deliver a series of lectures to high school students online. The topics center on Neuroscience and career guidance and are given by a variety of researchers and clinicians from UCLA. 

Some goals of this ongoing partnership include:

  • Promotion of science and higher education 
  • Promotion of gender and racial diversity in science and health care
  • Inspiring curiosity about neuroscience in students already enrolled in Science/Health tracks at schools from underserved areas of LA
  • Opening a direct channel of communication between high school students and UCLA faculty members

Summer Scholars

Black Medical Student Summer Research Program in Neurosurgery

The UCLA Neurosurgery department has partnered with Johns Hopkins, University of Miami MILLER School of Medicine, NYU Langone Health, University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), University of North Carolina, and Washington University in St. Louis to offer a Summer Research Scholarship in Neurosurgery in support of Black students interested in neurosurgery and neuroscience. The purpose of the award is to provide a neurosurgical based research fellowship for Black medical students who wish to gain experience in the fields of neuroscience and neurosurgery, and have early exposure to the field of neurosurgery.

Congratulations to Chante Butler from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Roseanna Murray from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine for matching at UCLA for the 2023 Summer Research Scholarship!
