New UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology Faculty

UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology is pleased to announce the recent hiring of the following new faculty members: Dr. Carolyn Haunschild, Dr. Kiran Kavipurapu, Dr. Quy Nguyen, Dr. Kelsey Rose, and Dr. Neil Silverman. Please join me in welcoming them to UCLA!

Carolyn Haunschild, MD

Carolyn Haunschild, MD 
Health Sciences Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Haunschild received her medical degree from the UC San Diego School of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Stanford University School of Medicine and gynecologic oncology fellowship at UC Irvine Medical Center. While in residency, Dr. Haunschild's passion for advanced cytoreductive surgeries, complex clinical care, and the patient-physician relationship drew her to the field of gynecologic oncology. 

Dr. Haunschild specializes in ovarian cancer cytoreductive surgeries and robotic-assisted minimally invasive procedures. Her clinical and research interests include clinical trials and targeted therapy. Dr. Haunschild sees patients in our Westwood location. 

 

Kiran Kavipurapu, MD

Kiran Kavipurapu, JD, MPH, DO 
Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Associate Program Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Dr. Kavipurau earned dual doctorate degrees in medicine and law, from Western University of Health Sciences and ULV College of Law, respectively. In addition, he also holds a Masters degree in Public Health with a focus on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the USC Keck School of Medicine.  He went on to complete his obstetrics and gynecology residency at UCLA-Kern Medical Center.  

Dr. Kavipurau’s clinical and research interests include general obstetrics and gynecology, high risk pregnancy, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery including the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, ovarian and adnexal masses, and both laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomy.  He is also a licensed California attorney and has additional interests in social justice and reproductive rights, medical-legal implications of health care reform, and quality improvement, which reflects in his patient care as a strong patient advocate. Dr. Kavipurapu is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and sees patients in our Westwood location. 

 

Quy Nguyen, MD

Dr. Nguyen received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Prior to joining UCLA, Dr. Nguyen ran a successful private practice at Rodeo Drive Women’s Health Center in Beverly Hills, CA. 

Dr. Nguyen’s clinical interests include maternal health equality, prenatal care, obstetrics, contraception management, abnormal uterine bleeding, vaginal infections, and lifelong comprehensive women’s health care. His research and medical education interests include integrating business of medicine and finance education into medical training and how that can improve well-being and reduce physician burn-out. He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Dr. Nguyen is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and sees patients in our Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey locations. 

 

Kelsey Rose, MD

Kelsey Rose, MD
Health Sciences Clinical Instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Rose completed both her medical degree and obstetrics and gynecology residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. During her residency she served as Administrative Chief resident. Before returning to UCLA, Dr. Rose worked at Kaiser Santa Clara providing general obstetrics and gynecology care as well as teaching residents and medical students.

Dr. Rose specializes in providing individualized, comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care to patients of all ages, with a special interest in working with athletes during their pregnancies, contraception, family planning, hysteroscopy, abnormal cervical cytology, adolescent health and abnormal uterine bleeding. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her research interests include medical education, simulation and obstetrical outcomes. Dr. Rose is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and sees patients in our Westwood location.

 

Neil S. Silverman, MD

Neil Silverman, MD  
Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology
Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program

Dr. Silverman received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. 

Dr. Silverman leads our efforts in the development of the new Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Program, working with both the adult and pediatric infectious disease divisions, as well as the department of microbiology, to develop a multidisciplinary program to develop educational, research, and clinical care focused in this area. Dr. Silverman specializes in high-risk pregnancies, obstetric infectious diseases, and reproductive genetics. He is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Expert Work Group on vaccines and emerging infections. Dr. Silverman is board certified in maternal fetal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology, and sees patients in our Westwood and Santa Monica locations.
