Thank you for visiting the website of the University of California, Los Angeles Multicampus Program in Infectious Diseases. We are extremely proud of our program and are excited for you to explore our website and learn about the exceptional training opportunities we provide across five hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area. We take great pride in being able to provide clinical training in a variety of patient care settings, with faculty who are committed to excellence in patient care, bedside teaching, and research mentorship. Our mission is to train the next generation of clinical and physician scientist leaders in infectious diseases who will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and structural competency to improve infectious diseases and overall health outcomes for individuals and communities across diverse settings locally and globally.

We are fortunate to be able to do what we do in a city with amazing weather, easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and surfing, and a world-class, multicultural art, music and food scene.

Offering two training tracks

  • Clinical Scholar track: This two-year track balances inpatient and outpatient training in infectious diseases in settings ranging from a quaternary academic hospital (Ronald Reagan Medical Center), one of the largest VA hospitals in the United States (VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System), a busy county hospital (Olive View), and two large academic community settings (Cedars Sinai and Santa Monica Hospitals). In the Clinical Scholars track, fellows can select academic projects in one or more of our concentration areas and receive both research and career mentorship from faculty in the fellow's area(s) of interest:
    • Transplant Infectious Diseases
    • Underserved (Local and Global) Infectious Diseases
    • HIV/STI Prevention and Treatment
    • Hospital Epidemiology and Antimicrobial Stewardship
    • Viral Hepatitis
    • Medical Education
    • Clinical Microbiology Diagnostic Testing and Antibiotic Resistance
  • Academic Research track: This track that consists of one year of intensive clinical training across the program's sites, followed by two or more years of research training, with the ultimate goal of preparing the trainee for a career as an independent investigator. We are proud to have several pathways (STAR and training grants) where fellows are guaranteed funding for the duration of their clinical and research training.

We also offer Advanced Clinical Training in Transplant (ID) Infectious Diseases, open to those who have completed at least 2 years of an ACGME-accredited ID fellowship program. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has one of the highest volume solid organ transplantation programs in the country, and offers an ideal setting to develop the expertise needed to launch a successful career in Transplant ID.

Our goal is to prepare fellows to be outstanding clinicians and clinician-investigators in Infectious Diseases. We strive to attract fellows into our program from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds who are adaptable, creative, and have diverse interests in furthering the field of infectious diseases. Our graduating fellows are highly successful at obtaining the jobs of their choice, ranging from academic clinical medicine, academic research, private practice, Kaiser, and public health, among others. We are proud of the training program that we have created and continue to strive for improvement from year to year. We are also strongly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and believe that we serve as an example for open dialogue, life-long learning, and compassionate quality care. Check out what we are doing as a fellowship program to promote equity, diversion, and inclusion, as well as highlights from our UCLA GME Equity and Diversity Inclusion efforts and our UCLA Department of Medicine Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DOMEDI), one of the few such offices within departments of medicine across the country. We hope you will explore our website and consider our program for your training!

Sincerely,
Christopher J. Graber, MD, MPH and the Program Leadership Team
