Functional gastrointestinal disorders are the most commonly diagnosed GI conditions, affecting millions of men, women and children of all ages. Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, dyspepsia, gastroparesis and chronic abdominal pain are characterized by an abnormality in the way the body works, even when tests appear normal. Nausea, bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea are among the symptoms associated with these conditions, which can cause considerable discomfort and emotional distress. Because much remains unknown about functional GI disorders, physicians are often at a loss for how to treat them.
At Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Division of Digestive Diseases, we offer a patient-centered program for patients suffering from functional GI disorders. A multidisciplinary team that includes internationally renowned experts in brain-gut interactions works to better understand the causes, to pinpoint the problems, and to provide state-of-the-art care. Through a holistic approach to evaluation and treatment that involves doctors, nurses and dietitians - built on a foundation of better understanding functional GI disorders through cutting-edge scientific studies and clinical trials leading to improved treatments - we are able to improve the lives of patients suffering from these conditions.
