UCLA Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers a wide variety of non-invasive office-based procedures to help rejuvenate the face and neck. We offer and use the latest technologies of non-invasive treatments. These techniques offer patients many advantages over traditional surgical procedures and reduce the side effects of discomfort, bleeding and bruising as well as avoiding general anesthesia risks. While these procedures are most commonly performed to treat the effects of aging, they can be performed on patients of any age who are looking to restore their skin to a smooth, clear complexion free of blemishes and other imperfections.

Non-Invasive Facial Rejuvenation

We offer the following office-based treatment options:

Botox (Neuromodulators)

Botox is a dilute, purified form of botulinum toxin, which is an extremely effective muscle relaxant. Although Botox is a toxin, it has been shown to have no serious side effects. When Botox is injected into the superficial muscles of the face, it relaxes these muscles and prevents the wrinkle lines caused by squinting, frowning, and raising the eyebrows. Botox is ideal for improving and smoothing the skin between the eyebrows, the lines of the forehead, and the crow's feet area around the eyes. It not only immediately improves dynamic facial lines, it also actually prevents those line from becoming permanently fixed in the skin, and so truly prevents the appearance of facial aging.

Fillers (e.g. Juvederm, Voluma)

Fillers, such as Juvederm or Voluma are an injectable gel made of a smooth hyaluronic acid. It is made through a ground-breaking new process called, "Hylacross technology" which means that the gel structure is FDA approved to last up to 1 year with just one treatment. Over time the body loses hyaluronic acid and reduces its production which consequently results with wrinkles and folds in the face. An example of this would be the smile lines around your mouth. Juvederm is used to fill in these wrinkles and folds with this naturally occurring substance for a safe treatment and youthful appearance. You may also use the product to enhance a feature such as your lips. For temples and cheek areas that need elevation, Voluma, can be used to enhance and counteract some of the age-related changes that occur with gravity over time.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a minimally invasive technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin. The peels work by removing the outermost layers of the skin. Different peels are used and tailored to a patient's needs. They newly regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Micro-needling

Micro-needling is an innovation in facial plastic surgery for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the skin's texture, tone and color. A hand-held device is used gently across your skin creating superficial micro-injuries designed to ultimately improve your skin condition upon re-epithelialization. The skin's repair process results in improvement of the appearance of softer wrinkles.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

As part of the body's heling ability, platelets are well known to release numerous growth factors that respond to tissue injury, initiate and promote the conditions for healing, and collagen production needed to combat age-related changes in our face and neck. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a concentrated portion of our blood that contains mostly platelets and these associated growth factors. Using a patient's own blood from a simple blood draw, we use the most advanced technology available to capture the PRP and then use it as an injection similar to fillers for facial rejuvenation.

Most recently, hair loss, especially in women, can be successfully treated by this minimally invasive approach of PRP injections to the scalp. The PRP re-activates hair follicles creating new and thicker hair growth.  Watch a video of Dr. Vishad Nabili sharing the latest on PRP therapy.
