Protecting children and promoting healthy families is the focus of the UCLA SCAN (Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect) Team. Our expert consultants are available 24 hours 7 days a week to provide services for suspected victims of child abuse and neglect and their families. Our team of professionals provide comprehensive evaluations for approximately 500 cases of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect annually.
Our multidisciplinary team of experts also provides education, training, and support within the UCLA healthcare system as well as in the community. Our Medical Director, Claudia Wang, M.D., is a board-certified child abuse pediatrician, who provides advanced physical abuse training to the Los Angeles County (DCFS) Department of Children and Family Services social workers. Her creative efforts have focused on care of the foster child, prenatal drug exposure as well as medical child abuse commonly referred as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
