Overview

The Phakic ICL implant, or Implantable Collamer Lens, is an artificial lens, similar in function to a contact lens and structure to an intraocular lens used to correct extreme nearsightedness. The ICL is implanted in front of the eye's natural lens, in the space behind the iris, so that it is invisible to outside observers and the patient. After an ICL implant, 95 percent of the patients do not need glasses or contact lenses until they develop cataracts as they age.
