The Pediatric Heart Failure Program at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital is unique in its dedication to the medical management of heart failure in the pediatric patient. These patients are cared for by the same multidisciplinary team caring for those who are listed or have undergone heart transplantation.

Our team is dedicated to the care of patients with heart failure/cardiomyopathy and through aggressive management work to optimize medical therapy to aid in the recovery of failing hearts thereby, avoiding or delaying the need for further intervention. We are actively involved in national and international clinical research and protocols that enable us to offer the latest and most tailored medical innovations.

Cardiomyopathy Program team

Under the leadership of Dr. Juan Alejos, this program acts to treat patients with the goal of stability or improvement of symptoms. Our team includes Dr. Leigh Reardon, Dr. Nancy Halnon, and Dr. Ryan Williams, Helen Dutko NP, and Adrianne Belay NP. Our goal is to provide the best in medical and emotional care one individual patient at a time. Patients who ultimately require cardiac transplantation, seamlessly transition to being cared for in the heart transplant program with the same dedicated medical team.
