Pediatric Cardiology

Pediatric Lipid Clinic

The UCLA Pediatric Lipid Clinic is a consultative program providing evaluation and management of lipid disorders in infants, children and adolescents.

Our multidisciplinary team delivers individualized, evidence-based care. Treatment plans may include nutrition counseling, lifestyle and exercise guidance, and lipid-lowering pharmacotherapy when clinically indicated.

A distinguishing feature of our program is close collaboration with the UCLA Center for Cholesterol Management, allowing coordinated care across the lifespan. This integrated approach supports evaluation and treatment of families with suspected or confirmed inherited lipid disorders and facilitates transition from pediatric to adult care.

Conditions commonly evaluated include:

  • Elevated cholesterol or triglycerides
  • Complex or mixed dyslipidemia
  • Suspected or confirmed familial hypercholesterolemia or other genetic lipid disorders
  • Increased cardiovascular risk requiring specialized management or close follow-up
  • Inadequate response or intolerance to prior lifestyle or medical therapy

For Families

Lipid disorders often have a genetic component and may affect multiple family members. The UCLA Pediatric Lipid Clinic emphasizes a family-centered approach, working closely with parents and caregivers and collaborating with adult lipid specialists when appropriate.

Through coordinated pediatric and adult care, we help families understand inherited risk, provide genetic testing,  identify affected relatives, and develop sustainable strategies to support cardiovascular health from childhood through adulthood with the UCLA Health Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic.

For Referring Providers

The UCLA Pediatric Lipid Clinic offers consultative evaluation and longitudinal management of pediatric dyslipidemia. We collaborate closely with primary care providers and subspecialists and partner with the UCLA Center for Cholesterol Management to support family-based care and transition planning for adolescents and young adults.

We offer evaluation and treatment for children with elevated lipids (fats) in their blood. Treatment often includes nutrition guidance for dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications with exercise. Some patients may require a cholesterol-lowering medication.

Please send or bring to your visit your child’s cholesterol blood tests. These and other outside labs may be faxed to us at 310-825-9524.
