Course Description: This intensive, practice-focused course is designed for rehabilitation professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of shoulder movement system syndromes through interactive lab sessions. Participants will apply evidence-based assessment and intervention strategies in a collaborative environment, emphasizing clinical reasoning and hands-on skills for managing common shoulder dysfunctions.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this class, the participants will be able to:
- Identify key movement system syndromes affecting the shoulder complex through functional assessment.
- Analyze movement impairments and their contributing factors using a systematic approach.
- Implement targeted interventions, including corrective exercises and manual techniques, to restore optimal shoulder function.
- Integrate movement system principles into individualized treatment plans for diverse patient populations.
Course Schedule/Agenda:
8:00-8:15 Course Overview, introductions, review of objectives and schedule, quick orientation to lab stations
8:15-9:45 Demo with hands-on practice with partners (tests and exercises)
9:45-10:00 Break
10:00-11:00 Hands-on practice with small groups (tests and exercises)
11:00-12:00 Hands-on practice with small groups (tests and exercises)

Educational Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Completion of previous MSI/MSS course.
Completion Requirements: To earn a certificate of completion, participants must:
- Attend the entire duration of the professional development activity.
- Complete the post-course evaluation no later than 48 hours after the class. A link to the evaluation will be emailed to you following the class.
- Successfully demonstrated competency during the lab portion of the course.
- No partial credit will be awarded.
Cancellation Policy:
Provider Cancelation: The Rehab Education Committee reserves the right to cancel a course due to low enrollment, unforeseen circumstance, or instructor availability. In such cases, participants will be notified via email as soon as possible.
Participant Cancellation: If you are unable to attend, please email at least 7 days before the course date.

Instructor Bios
Michael Salazar, PT, DPT
In 1997, Michael Salazar PT, DPT received his physical therapy degree in the Philippines. He became and Orthopedic Certified Specialist in 2010 and received his Transitional DPT in 2011 at Western University of Health Sciences. Attending Clare Frank’s courses kindled his keen interest in Movement Science. He became a Movement System Fellow at Washington University and was fortunate to learn Movement System from Dr. Sahrmann and the faculty and mentored by Maiko Morotani. Michael also became a Therapeutic Pain Specialist in 2021.
Michael practices at UCLA Health in Santa Monica, California. He has lab assisted for several Movement System classes in Los Angeles.

Joan Vicente, PT, DPT, PhD
Joan Vicente, PT, DPT, PhD earned her physical therapy degree in the Philippines in 2004. She is a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and a fellowship graduate in Movement System Physical Therapy. She currently serves as a Rehab Clinical Educator at UCLA Health and is an adjunct faculty member in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Dr. Vicente completed her PhD in Health Sciences with a concentration in Orthopedic Sports Science, with research focused on thoracic spine posture and mobility in relation to shoulder health. She is also trained in Schroth-based scoliosis management and integrates this approach into her clinical practice. Dr. Vicente served as a regional mentor for the Movement System Clinical Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis and has helped teach Movement System Syndromes courses since.

Prachi Vira, PT, DPT
Prachi Vira, PT, DPT received her physical therapy degree from the University of Southern California in 2009. She is a dedicated and lifelong learner in the field of physical therapy with over 15 years of outpatient and inpatient experience focusing on orthopedics and neurology and more than 10 years of focused work in movement systems. She completed the Movement System Clinical Fellowship in 2019 and further expanded her movement system knowledge through courses with Medbridge and Movement Links. Her ongoing commitment to movement science has deepened her expertise in biomechanics, movement analysis, clinical reasoning as well as her ability to assess and treat movement dysfunctions. Prachi regularly integrates these skills into clinical practice through treatment interventions and patient education. By empowering her patients with a clearer understanding of their movement patterns, she aims to improve her patient’s body awareness, encourage long-term self-management of symptoms, and help prevent re-injury.
