Westwood Volunteer Opportunities

The following volunteer assignments are among the most popular for our volunteers:

Chase Child Life/Child Development Program
(must be over 16 years of age)

Volunteers for the Child Life Program provide normalization to the pediatric patients and their families. Volunteers will assist in the Child Life team in one of our activity rooms (Playroom, Teen Lounge, Family Resource Room) or at the beside of a pediatric patient through play directed activities. Evening and weekend hours available. 

New volunteers interested in this department must also attend a separate Child Life Program Orientation. 

Surgical Waiting Area/Maddie's Room

Act as a liaison between the families in the Surgical Waiting Area and the staff in the Operating Room and Recovery Room. Check waiting family members in, explain the process and update people as information becomes available. Must be extremely customer-service oriented, empathetic and possess good communication skills. Shifts available 7AM - 9PM. Weekdays only.

UCLA Volunteer Opportunities

Information Desk 

Volunteer at one of our Information Desks located at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center or the Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza. Greet people, look up patient room numbers and provide general information and assistance. Extensive training will be provided. Must be computer literate and possess good customer service and communication skills. Morning shift is 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and afternoon shift is 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekend shifts also available. Looking for volunteers who are dependable, reliable and will commit to coming in on scheduled days.

 

Patient Escort/Transport

Assist in the Patient Transport office at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Discharge patients, assists in transfers and generally help the patient escort staff. Great for students who would like to see all areas of the hospital and get clinical exposure. Flexible weekday and weekend hours. 

Floater Volunteer

Assigned to the Volunteer Office for one four-hour shift per week during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Help deliver patient mail and newspapers. Assignments change each shift depending on needs of the hospital and clinics. 

Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza

Volunteer at one of our many clinics located at the Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza. Greeter positions available as well as general office work. Answering telephones, clerical assignments and general assistance needed.

Recovery Room

Volunteers in this area assist the staff in keeping track of the many patients recovering from surgery. This position acts as a liaison to the Surgical Waiting Area staff, keeping them informed of updates in the Recovery Room.
