The Vay Liang W. (Bill) Go MD Lectureship in Nutrition and Pancreatic Diseases

The Vay Liang W. (Bill) Go MD Lectureship in Nutrition and Pancreatic Diseases was established in 2022 to honor Dr. Go. The former executive chair and distinguished professor of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Go’s outstanding academic career in administration, research, and education in the areas of nutrition sciences, gastroenterology, and pancreatology spanned more than five decades. Establishing the lectureship was the wish of Dr. Go’s late wife, Frisca Yan Go., M.D., professor of neurology, and founder and director emerita of the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center.

The lectureship honors outstanding national and international experts in nutrition and in pancreatic diseases. A six-person multidisciplinary committee co-chaired by Drs. Joe Hines and Zhaoping Li, and including Drs. Steve Pandol, Tim Donahue, Anna Gukovskaya, and Raman Muthusamy, manages the lectureship and selects the annual recipient.

The first Vay Liang W. (Bill) Go MD Lectureship in Nutrition and Pancreatic Diseases was awarded to Stephen J. Pandol., M.D., a professor-in-residence in the Department of Medicine at UCLA, and director of Basic and Translational Pancreas Research and program director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at Cedars-Sinai. His lectureship focused on the connection between pancreatic diseases; specifically, pancreatitis, diabetes, and pancreatic cancer.

The Go family has also established a companion fund for the lectureship. The companion fund supports fellow and staff education, including Personalized Nutrition in Primary Care, an annual program highlighting groundbreaking research, at which Dr. Go awardees will present each year.
