Our mission is to train future leaders in academic surgery. We are a seven-year program, comprising five clinical years and two (or more) research years. We accept seven categorical general surgery residents a year. Our chief residents typically graduate with close to 1,100 major cases, and more than 90% go on to complete additional fellowship training, frequently matching at their top choice.

As a program, we are dedicated to caring for our patients, to training and mentoring, and to reinterpreting what it means to advance the field of surgery. Some of us hail from southern California, but many of us have come from all over the country and now call UCLA home.

On the following pages, we invite you to learn more about our program’s history and vision, our program leadership, our current residents, and our alumni.
