Discovery (Year 3) Research Opportunities
The UCLA Department of Pediatrics is excited to offer the Pediatric Research Discovery Program to students interested in exploring child health research during their Discovery Period.
The Pediatrics Research Discovery Program is a structured Discovery period curriculum open to all DGSOM students engaged in pediatric research during their discovery period. The Department of Pediatrics houses researchers engaged in all aspects of child health innovation, including basic science, clinical, translational, and health services research. The faculty mentor students and trainees at all levels, and we welcome medical students who wish to join this vibrant and diverse research community. In addition to regular meetings and mentorship from your primary research mentor, the core programmatic activity is a weekly seminar series which emphasizes:
- Exposure to a wide variety of academic pediatricians beyond your immediate research group to diversify career development mentorship.
- Work-in-progress sessions to generate constructive feedback and support from peers, program leaders, and pediatric research faculty.
- Didactic sessions to support research skill development, including critical skills in communication of science and dissemination of findings to academic, industry, community, and policy audiences.
- Journal club sessions to introduce seminal research articles and strengthen your skills in critical appraisal of scientific publications.
