Mission Vision & Philosophy

Staying true to what we believe.

UCLA Health

Our philosophy allows us to turn great expectations into great accomplishments. Our entire staff-across our vast health system-takes immense pride in honoring the beliefs that perpetuate UCLA Health as a leader. UCLA Health employees are committed to the UCLA CICARE approach with every patient, family or employee interaction and are dedicated to healing humankind one patient at a time. The UCLA CICARE approach adheres to the following beliefs: Connect with the person; Introduce yourself and your role; Communicate the plan; Ask and anticipate needs, questions, or concerns; Respond to patient/family questions; and Exit courteously and with an explanation of what will come next. This humanistic approach creates an environment of change and growth that benefits our patients and greater community.

Our Mission is to deliver leading-edge patient care, research, and education.
Our Vision is to heal humankind, one patient at a time, by improving health, alleviating suffering, and delivering acts of kindness.
Our Values ensure Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Teamwork, Excellence and Discovery in the work we do daily.

UCLA Health Nursing Mission

The philosophy of UCLA Health Nursing is to support the professional nurse, while nurturing their intellect, heart, soul, and imagination. In accordance with the American Nurses Association (ANA), the organization supports the role of the professional nurse guided by the ANA Bill of Rights and the principles of the UCLA Health vision, values, and commitment to care. Nursing has a Relationship-Based Care Model that establishes a partnership between the nurse, patient, and family and includes values such as compassion, respect, and a commitment to patient care.

Nursing excellence is at the forefront of UCLA Health's outstanding patient care. UCLA Health Nursing empowers the professional nurse to recognize their unique gifts, to give voice to ideals, to strive for personal, professional, and academic excellence, and to accept the challenge of the human experience.

UCLA Health is an academic medical center that partners with the UCLA School of Medicine and UCLA School of Nursing to support the mission of research and education to provide leading-edge patient care.
