The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of California, Los Angeles offers a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility which is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
UCLA's REI fellows are exceptionally trained in the clinical skills that are essential for management of reproductive hormones related issues as well as infertility.
Eighteen (18) months of the program are dedicated to clinical training, and 18 months are dedicated to research. The clinical training takes place at UCLA facilities in Westwood and Santa Monica and in a private practice setting. The 18 months of research can be done within any department at UCLA in order to successfully complete a research project that can be used as a thesis for board certification. At the end of the 3rd year of fellowship, all fellows will defend their thesis project in a formal presentation for the members of the division, as well as the department as a whole. Additionally, the thesis work must be written in a form suitable for publication.
Fellows in the REI program have the opportunity to pursue the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) program. The UCLA STAR program provides the opportunity to be trained in basic science (Ph.D. track), health service/outcomes (Ph.D. track), and clinical research (M.S. track).
In accordance with ACGME, our fellowship accommodates the requirements of various research training programs by minimizing the clinical activities to no more than 10% of the fellow's time in the 18 months of research training. The training program is designed to provide the experience that is critical to the development of a successful career in REI.
In addition, as part of the fellowship, you will be encouraged to attend the following conferences or courses:
- American Society for Reproductive Medicine annual conference
- Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility National Fellows’ Symposium for first and third year fellows
- National Institutes of Health retreat for second year fellows
- Pacific Coast Reproductive Society annual conference
- Society for Reproductive Investigation annual conference
To complete your application, your ERAS application must include three letters of recommendation from individuals who can assess your clinical capabilities as well as your future potential for the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Please also ensure that your Medical School Performance Evaluations, medical school transcripts, and USMLE scores are also uploaded onto ERAS. CREOG score reports for PGY 1-3 should be sent directly to Valeria Montoya Ramirez at [email protected]. Applicants with a foreign medical degree must also include copies of all educational transcripts, exam scores, and the ECFMG certificate with the application. All application materials must be received by Wednesday May 1, 2024 (12PM CST) in order to be considered a candidate for this program.
Complete applications will be reviewed with the top applicants being selected for interviews. Interviews are mandatory for candidates under serious consideration for fellowship positions as they allow the candidate to gain the true flavor and character of the program, as well as giving the program an excellent opportunity for assessing the potential of each candidate. You will be notified by June 4, 2024 if you have been chosen for an interview. This is the single notification date when all REI fellowships send out “first wave” notifications.
