LGBTQ+ Health Care Program Highlights

Some of the highlights of the UCLA LGBTQ+ Health Initiative include:

National recognition: We’ve achieved recognition as an LGBTQ+ Health Care Equity Leader from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. The HRC evaluates facilities’ policies and practices related to equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.

Leaders in research: The Clinical AIDS Research and Education (CARE) Center provides leading-edge medical care and clinical trials for people living with HIV/AIDS. We are a center for many national and international HIV research networks and a site for pharmaceutical and smaller-scale clinical trials.

Full-spectrum health care: We offer culturally competent primary care services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning children, teens and adults. We also provide a range of gender-affirming care options, including all types of gender-confirming surgeries.

Our LGBTQ+ Health Care Services

In addition to providing full-spectrum health and primary care services to all LGBTQ+ patients, we offer specialty programs and services for patients with specific concerns, including:

LGBTQ+ Champions: UCLA LGBTQ+ Champions are physicians who have specialized training and experience caring for LGBTQ+ patients. This virtually connected network of more than 60 primary and specialty care providers participate in ongoing education and professional development in LGBTQ+ health topics and provide care to UCLA Health patients across the greater Los Angeles region.

Gender Health Program: Through this program, we offer health care for children, teens and adults who are transgender or gender diverse. In addition to primary and specialty care for general health needs, we provide a broad range of gender-affirming treatment options, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, gender-affirming surgeries, and voice services.

EMPWR Program: We designed the EMPWR Program to promote wellbeing and resilience in LGBTQ+ children, teenagers and adults. An expert team of psychiatrists and psychologists provides mental health resources, including individualized, family and group counseling.

The UCLA Health Lesbian, Bisexual, and Queer (LBQ+) Health Program: This program aims to address the unique health care needs of sexual and gender diverse individuals through multidisciplinary clinical care, community engagement, medical education, and ongoing quality improvement projects. The program accepts patients on a self-referral basis and aims to be inclusive of individuals who are female-identifying and/or assigned female at birth (AFAB) and identify as lesbian, bisexual, and/or queer, or otherwise feel the program would be a good fit to address their unique healthcare needs. Call 310-207-0041 or visit the website to learn more.

CARE Center: In 1981, UCLA physicians reported some of the very first cases of what we now know as AIDS. Since then, we have conducted clinical trials to find the best HIV/AIDS treatments, medications and prevention tools. Simultaneously, we run a fellowship program for physicians who want to specialize in HIV medicine.
