Welcome to the UCLA Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program!

Here at UCLA, we are dedicated to training academic pulmonary and critical care physicians within our dynamic, diverse, and growing faculty practice and fellowship program. We anticipate matching nine pulmonary fellows to our program for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Training Sites

We are a four-hospital training program consisting of a quarternary care center (Ronald Reagan Medical Center at UCLA), a community hospital (Santa Monica-UCLA Hospital), a VA hospital (West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Hospital), and a county hospital (Olive View-UCLA Medical Center). This creates the perfect, well-rounded training environment with exposure to diverse patient populations through a variety of clinical rotations.

Two tracks are available in our training program: a research (physician-scientist) track and a clinician-educator track. Starting in the second year, fellows on the research track will have ample protected research time and opportunities to participate in clinical, translational, or basic science research with formal one-on-one mentoring as well as overall supervision by a research committee. Our Division and the Department of Medicine at UCLA are strongly committed to the training of academic specialists and have created the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) program (https://medschool.ucla.edu/star) which allows trainees to pursue advanced degrees while in fellowship with the goal of becoming physician-scientists. Within our clinician-educator track, fellows participate in quality improvement projects, smaller research projects, clinical trials, educational programs for medical students and housestaff, and publishing of review articles, case series, and case reports. There is formal mentoring in this track provided by a clinician-educator faculty member and many fellows are able to choose a clinical focus within this track to develop a clinical niche early in their careers i.e. within pulmonary vascular disease, transplant medicine, sleep medicine, etc.

We are extremely proud of the training program that we have created and continue to strive for improvement from year to year. Thank you for your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact me directly for any questions you may have.

Warmest Regards,

Tisha Wang, MD
