Hearing aids are indicated for all degrees of hearing loss, from slight to profound. Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing, however, properly fitted hearing aids provide good benefit in most listening situations. UCLA Audiologists ensure that hearing aids are appropriately fitted for your individual hearing loss and ear shape, including measuring your RECD (real-ear to coupler difference) while you are wearing the hearing aid to ensure that individual information is used in the accurate programming of your hearing aids.
At UCLA, hearing aids of all prices, types, models and from most major manufacturers are available for purchase. Audiologists meet with patients and family members to go through a comprehensive audiological rehabilitation consultation appointment, which includes an assessment of the patient's needs, preferences, and budget; working with the patient and family, hearing aids are selected and fitted.
Hearing aids are dispensed with a 2-year warranty covering loss (one-time) and repair; all follow-up services at the UCLA Audiology Clinic related to the hearing aids are provided at no additional charge for the first year after purchase. As required by state law, all hearing aids are provided with a 45-day right-to-return policy.
Medicare does not pay for hearing aids. While some private insurances cover hearing aids (or a portion of hearing aids) it is important to check your individual coverage to understand the terms. We do not bill insurances for hearing aids.
There are many new technologies and cosmetically-appealing hearing aids from which to choose. The wide range of hearing aid prices offers choices for all.
UCLA Audiology does not participate in any HMO hearing aid plans.
Remember: People who need hearing aids, but who do not use them, are more likely to become socially isolated and possibly depressed. Expect to hear better, and expect that your quality of life will be improved by properly fitted hearing aids.
