The UCLA Audiology Clinic provides a full range of hearing aid services, including sales of hearing aids, associated accessories, and assistive listening devices, as well as hearing aid repairs.

Slim-tube BTE (behind-the-ear) small cosmetically appealing hearing aid that can be programmed to fit most hearing losses, except for those that are very severe.Hearing aids are indicated for all degrees of hearing loss, from slight to profound. Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing, however, properly fitted hearing aids provide good benefit in most listening situations. UCLA Audiologists ensure that hearing aids are appropriately fitted for your individual hearing loss and ear shape, including measuring your RECD (real-ear to coupler difference) while you are wearing the hearing aid to ensure that individual information is used in the accurate programming of your hearing aids.

At UCLA, hearing aids of all prices, types, models and from most major manufacturers are available for purchase. Audiologists meet with patients and family members to go through a comprehensive audiological rehabilitation consultation appointment, which includes an assessment of the patient's needs, preferences, and budget; working with the patient and family, hearing aids are selected and fitted.

Hearing aids are dispensed with a 2-year warranty covering loss (one-time) and repair; all follow-up services at the UCLA Audiology Clinic related to the hearing aids are provided at no additional charge for the first year after purchase. As required by state law, all hearing aids are provided with a 45-day right-to-return policy.

Medicare does not pay for hearing aids.  While some private insurances cover hearing aids (or a portion of hearing aids) it is important to check your individual coverage to understand the terms. We do not bill insurances for hearing aids.

FAQ's About Hearing Aids

  1. Properly-fitted hearing aids provide improved understanding of speech in most environments.
  2. While hearing aids do not "block out background noise", today's hearing aid circuits allow noise to be  managed for greater comfort.
  3. You will get the most benefit from your hearing aids when you wear them every day. It takes time to become accustomed to hearing aids, and the more you wear them, the more comfortable all sounds will be.
  4. Hearing aid prices, at UCLA, range from $950 per hearing aid to $4000 per hearing aid depending on the style and features provided.
  5. Hearing aid prices include professional services of audiologist in the selection, fitting, verification and validation, as well as long-term maintenance while the hearing aids are under the manufacturer's original warranty. Take advantage of this by making and keeping regular follow-up visits!
  6. There are many types, styles, manufacturers and prices of hearing aids.  The "best" hearing aids are those that are fitted for a) your hearing loss; b) the size and shape of your ear, and c) your budget.
  7. Most people need two hearing aids; people hear best with two ears.
  8. Hearing changes over time; it is necessary to have regular hearing evaluations in order that hearing aids can be re-programmed if necessary.

Remember:  People who need hearing aids, but who do not use them, are more likely to become socially isolated and possibly depressed.  Expect to hear better, and expect that your quality of life will be improved by properly fitted hearing aids.
