The Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases Division, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA seeks an M.D. or M.D., Ph.D. physician-scientist for a full-time position at the associate or full professor rank commensurate with experience. Candidates must have an established independent research program, a record of clinical excellence, in addition to proven teaching abilities. His/her/their research focus should be translational with an emphasis on infectious diseases processes. Priority areas of interest include transplantation related issues, virology, bacterial resistance, mycology, emerging infectious diseases or tuberculosis. Rich opportunities are available for cooperative research with UCLA scientists in many disciplines. Candidates must be board certified in Infectious Diseases and licensed or licensable to practice medicine in the State of California.

The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral position for 2 years, supported by NIH funding. The incumbent will conduct research in novel therapeutic approaches to treat viral infections including HIV and Covid-19. 

Preferred qualifications: Familiar with techniques such as multi-color flow cytometry, sterile technique for cell culture with BSL-2+ practices, ELISA, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, Western Blot and molecular biology techniques. Mouse experience is preferred but is not required. Experience in virology research is preferred but not required. The candidate should be comfortable working with BSL2+ biospecimens including biospecimens (cells, plasma, tissues) from patients or mice with COVID-19 and/or HIV. A Ph.D. is required.

Overview: The pandemic COVID-19 emphasized the need to develop novel therapeutic strategies to combat morbidity and mortality from viral infections. The Kelesidis laboratory focuses on novel antioxidants that target increased bioactive lipids and altered mitochondria to attenuate increased systemic inflammation, immune dysfunction and end organ disease in chronic HIV infection. Importantly these antioxidants were also recently shown to attenuate SARS-CoV-2 viral replication and associated inflammatory responses in lung cells. The lab uses in vitro cell culture models, ex vivo models of atherogenesis and gut explants to dissect mechanisms how the cross talk between bioactive lipids, immune, endothelial and epithelial cells drive atherogenesis and how novel therapeutic agents attenuate aberrant proinflammatory cellular pathways. The lab also uses a preclinical humanized mouse model of chronic treated HIV infection to study in vivo how novel therapies attenuate end organ disease. Recent areas of research include studies of pathogenesis of COVID-19 using preclinical in vitro and animal models of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking candidates for a one-year clinical (non-ACGME accredited) career development position in Transplant Infectious Diseases. Eligible applicants will have completed at least two years of an ACGME-accredited Infectious Diseases fellowship program, and either board certified or board eligible in Infectious Diseases, and have a California medical license or be CA license-eligible. The application process for this one-year position does not involve the National Residency Matching Program. Successful applicants will be appointed to a full-time faculty position as Health Sciences Clinical Instructor, precepted by UCLA Transplant ID specialists. Under the supervision of the Infectious Diseases faculty, the position will work on the inpatient Transplant ID services for approximately 8 months. This will include approximately 1 weekend per month of coverage as well as working over one major holiday. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to participate in 3 months of elective time designed to complement your ID training and provide time for pursuit of scholarly activities. During general ID service, the candidate will teach medical students, residents and fellows who may be rotating. An M.D. or D.O. is required.

The focus of this position is to provide advanced training in the expanding field of Transplant Infectious Diseases and will offer exposure to patients undergoing heart, lung, liver, and kidney transplantation and ventricular assist device implantation, as well as patients with hematologic malignancies and undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation.
