Faculty Bios

Amy Richards, M.D.
Dr. Richards earned her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her medical doctorate from UCLA. She completed family medicine residency and her fellowship in Addiction Medicine at UCLA.
She is now an Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCLA Department of Family Medicine, where she practices as an Addiction Medicine specialist and works as a primary care physician. Her expertise includes the diagnosis and management of substance use disorders and treating chronic pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is also board-certified in Family Medicine and works in full spectrum family medicine, to include pediatric care, women’s health, geriatric care. Her treatment objectives include prioritizing patients’ goals, whole-person care and practicing evidence-based medicine.
Her practice is further enriched by serving as a research clinician at the UCLA Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine. She is actively involved in teaching fellows, residents and medical students at UCLA. During her free time, she enjoys all types of sports, being outdoors, and traveling with her husband and their three boys.

Yulsi Fernandez Montero, M.D.
Dr. Yulsi L. Fernandez Montero is board certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, and has a passion for education, a deep commitment to social justice, health equality, leadership, and URM mentoring and advancement in medicine.
She was born and raised in Mexico, moved to the United States as a teenager where she has witnessed and benefitted from the beauty, strength and resiliency of diverse communities including immigrant and underserved communities.
Dr. Fernandez Montero graduated from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed her post-graduate training at UCLA Santa Monica Orthopedic Hospital. She is now part of the Family Medicine Faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she also provides patient care.
