Extra! TV on Nov. 11, 2009 featured host Mario Lopez receiving a capsule endoscopy, a screening procedure used to assess the esophagus and stomach by swallowing a pill containing a tiny camera that takes continuous photos as it travels through the digestive tract. Dr. Rome Jutabha, associate clinical professor of digestive diseases, performed the procedure and was also interviewed. View video clip

 

 


National Media Cover Colonoscopy Study
A new UCLA/VA study reported that early-morning colonoscopies yielded more polyps per patient than later cases. The findings point to the need for more research in this area to possibly improve outcomes for colonoscopy procedures. The study was reported in The New York Times on Nov. 17, 2009, the Boston Globe on Nov. 9, 2009, a Time Magazine Blog, HealthDay, WebMD and European Union News Network on Nov. 6, and KABC-TV Channel 7 on Nov. 8. Dr. Brennan Spiegel, director, UCLA/VA Center for Outcomes Research and Education and associate professor of digestive diseases, was interviewed. The HealthDay News story was picked up by websites for Forbes, Tehran Times and U.S. News & World Report. The Fallbrook Village News (CA) ran the story on Nov. 19, 2009.
