Pain Medicine

Pain Medicine at UCLA

Pain medicine at UCLA extends across the full continuum of health care. World-class care in chronic pain management is available through the UCLA Comprehensive Pain Center. Patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures receive individual preoperative evaluation, and pain management is tailored to each patient's specific needs, minimizing opioid therapy wherever possible.

  • Patients with preexisting pain management problems may be referred to our Preoperative Evaluation and Planning Center (PEPC) in advance of surgery so that their pain management is coordinated before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Regional anesthesia is an integral part of our acute pain management services and of our Enhanced Recovery program.
  • Patients with chronic pain may receive evaluation and management services, including invasive procedures, at any of the affiliated clinics within the UCLA Comprehensive Pain Center.
  • UCLA anesthesiology residents receive state-of-the-art training in acute and chronic pain management during their pain medicine rotations.
  • ACGME-accredited fellowship training is offered in pain medicine, and clinical fellowship training is offered in acute pain and regional anesthesiology.
