Bio
Dr. Nwe Nwe Soe is an Assistant Professor at Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Soe is board-certified in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetic.
Dr. Soe received a medical degree from University of Medicine 2 Yangon, Myanmar in 2002. She earned her PhD degree in Cardiovascular Physiology and Medicine from Hiroshima University in 2009, supported by a prestigious Japanese Government Scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. She finished her postdoctoral fellowship at Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute at University of Rochester, NY and Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Soe completed the immunogenetics clinical fellowship at UCLA Immunogenetics Center in 2018. Upon graduation, she joined AdventHealth Tissue Typing Laboratory in Orlando Florida and became the Director, Clinical Consultant and Technical Supervisor of the AdventHealth Tissue Typing Laboratory in 2021. Dr. Soe joined the UCLA faculty as an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in 2025.
Dr. Soe's research focuses on identifying cell signal transduction mechanism in vascular system involved in antibody-mediated rejection the leading cause of graft loss in transplant recipients. Understanding the cell signaling mechanism can provide the development of potential diagnostics markers and targeted therapies. Dr. Soe's clinical interests include immunogenetics, solid organ transplantation, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and to utilize novel diagnostics technologies and immunological risk assessment strategies to improve transplant outcomes.
Dr. Soe has served on national and local committees including ASHI Science and Technology Initiatives Committee, ASHI University Committee and Local OPO OurLegacy Advisory Board. She is a member of professional societies including American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, American Society of Transplantation, American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine and American Society for Clinical Pathology.
