Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship
Program Overview
The Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship at UCLA is a one-year program that is offered to interested graduating anesthesia residents, board-eligible anesthesiologists, and board-certified anesthesiologists.
As integral members of the obstetric anesthesia team, fellows train in several different hospital settings and see a variety of maternal and fetal high-risk deliveries. One of the main objectives of the obstetric anesthesia fellowship is to provide a foundation for effective collaboration in a multidisciplinary obstetric setting. Fellows are active participants in evaluating high-risk obstetric patients and implementing an appropriate anesthetic plan. Two-week clinical fellowship rotations in maternal-fetal medicine and the neonatal intensive care unit allow fellows to acquire the clinical expertise that is essential for management of complex obstetric patients in a multidisciplinary environment.
Education for clinical fellows includes formal didactics, journal club, and simulation courses. Clinical teaching takes place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. It is strongly encouraged that fellows become involved in clinical or basic science research that is facilitated through teaching faculty, and non-clinical time will be included to allow for such endeavors.
The OB anesthesia fellowship program has been approved for accreditation by the ACGME, effective July 1, 2024. Applicants must be able to obtain a California medical license prior to starting. The fellowship is structured to match the format and requirements for an ACGME-accredited obstetric fellowship program.
