The UCLA Division of General Pediatrics offers health services research fellowships through two nationally renowned campus-wide programs—the National Clinician Scholars Program (formerly the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars

Program) and the UCLA NRSA Primary care & Health Services Research Fellowship.

The Division has a strong and growing health services research operation, with physician researchers; research managers, statisticians, and assistants; collaborative relationships with various UCLA schools, departments, institutes, and centers; and partnerships with major public and private community organizations and agencies.

Division researchers are primarily housed in the Health Services Research Program in the UCLA Children’s Discovery & Innovation Institute. Our research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other public and private funders.

We focus on conducting policy-relevant research to improve health and well-being in medically and socially vulnerable populations ranging from children with complex chronic medical illnesses to children with equally complex and chronic exposure to and risk for poverty, social resource deprivation, trauma, developmental delay, school failure, and involvement in the child welfare or juvenile justice systems.

Our goal is to develop, test, and implement innovative and expansive primary care redesign strategies to address fundamental childhood drivers of lifelong health in these vulnerable populations.
