| |Sept 12 Day of Mindfulness: Cultivating Self-Compassion With Diana Winston Many of us struggle with issues of self-judgment and self-criticism. People of all ages suffer from painful thoughts such as, "I'm not good enough," "I messed that up again," and "I hate my body." Although these thoughts may feel overwhelming and intractable, we can learn how to work with and lessen them. Science has shown that you can actually change your brain through mindfulness and the cultivation of positive emotional states.
In this daylong, we will explore mindfulness practices to work with self-critical thoughts, and self-compassion practices to nurture kindness and compassion for ourselves and others. The day will include sitting and walking mindfulness and kindness meditations, periods of silence, personal exploration, and discussion to help cultivate and encourage more self-compassion. Appropriate for beginners and those who have been practicing for some time.
Dates: Saturday, Sept 12, 2020
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM PST
Venue: Online via Zoom
| |Sept 16 Change Your Question, Change Your Life with Mitra Manesh Whether we are aware of it or not, we’re always answering "a question" in life by the way we make decisions, interpret events, and interact with others. Without mindfulness, the question is almost always fear-based and related to survival. But is that really the question we want to be asking and responding to, consciously or unconsciously, much or most of the time?
In this unique course, we will use a variety of mindfulness tools and techniques—wise inquiry, meditation, journaling, and more—to collectively and individually bring awareness to the default questions that drive the way we behave and live. And also, to become curious about other questions, chosen questions, that can help us create the life we really want to live. This is a course about mindful living in action, taking the awareness we cultivate on the cushion and bringing it to our deepest and least explored assumptions, the ones that lock us into habits and patterns we never chose, and that keep us from developing the ones we really want.
Dates: Wednesdays, September 16th – October 7th, 2020
Times: 5 PM - 6.30 PM
Venue: Online via Zoom
