Visiting Elective Scholarship Program
We are pleased to offer the Visiting Elective Scholarship Program (VESP), which provides financial support to senior U.S. medical students who are traditionally underrepresented in medicine, and who are interested in applying to UCLA for a senior clinical elective.
Please note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the VESP Program will not be accepting applicants for the 2020-2021 academic year. We hope to be able to provide opportunities in the future. If you have questions, please e-mail gibarrola@mednet.ucla.edu.
4th year Medical Students - Elective Information
Please note: DGSOM will not be accepting students from other medical schools for visiting electives. The only exception to this will be visiting students from a local medical school who do not have access to a specific rotation at their home institution. Visiting rotation slots will be offered to these students only if doing so does not impact rotation availability for DGSOM students and will be limited to one elective. Requests for such electives must be accompanied by communication from the Dean of Students at the student’s home institution documenting that their student is unable to obtain this educational experience at their medical school.
Applications from students who fulfill the above requirements will be processed through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS), and will not be confirmed until the Course Chair approves the application.
The Department of Pediatrics at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA offers a wide variety of senior medical students electives in Pediatrics. For detailed information about the electives we offer, please access the DGSOM website at: http://medschool.ucla.edu/current-visiting-students. This site contains all course descriptions and application instructions. We require that students complete and pass all core clerkships to be eligible to apply for senior electives.
