Dr. Nour, director of UCLA's mobile stroke unit program, shares the six letters everyone should memorize to quickly recognize critical stroke symptoms: BEFAST. Look out for sudden, acute changes in Balance, Eyes (vision), Face (droop or weakness), Arms (weakness or sensory changes), or Speech (slurred words) and recognize that it is Time to call 911. ASAP.
You will also learn about the risk factors for stroke--those you can control and those you can’t. Plus, get a behind-the-scenes look at mobile stroke units, how they work, and how they are revolutionizing stroke care by bringing the “hospital” to the patient.
The reality is that one in four of us will have a stroke in our lifetime. Memorize BEFAST, share it with five people you love, and have them share it with five more. This simple acronym could one day save your life or the life of someone you love.

In this two-part series Dr. Eve Glazier is joined by Julie Saliba Clauer. A devoted mom and an accomplished marketing executive, Julie has been living with Stage 4 colon cancer for seven years. She also just happens to be Dr. Glazier’s best friend from childhood.
In Episode 1, Julie graciously shares her story leading up to and after her diagnosis. Starting with the symptoms that first prompted her to text Dr. Glazier for advice to the moment she received her cancer diagnosis at 43 years old–just seven months after giving birth to her first child– Julie discloses candid details.
We follow along with her as she conducts a methodical search for the right care team and the various treatments that have kept her alive. Julie also offers practical advice on what symptoms to look out for, what to consider when choosing a care team, and how to advocate for the best care for yourself and your loved ones. Even while she opens up about the physical pain, the shock, and the uncertainty she has endured, she also explains how she has managed to stay sane and find joy while living with a terminal diagnosis. Her underlying message is inspiring and clear. “You have cancer, but it does not have you.”
