Joel Beckett, MD

Dr. Beckett is a dual-fellowship trained neurosurgeon who specializes in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders such as stenosis, disk herniations, spondylolisthesis, spinal deformity and tumors.  With extensive training in both minimally invasive and complex spinal surgery, he takes pride in working with his patients to customize each treatment plan to achieve their goals. In addition to providing the highest level of care for his patients, Dr. Beckett is passionate about teaching and mentoring students and resident neurosurgeons. He is also active in research and has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications focusing on technological advances such as ‘big data’, artificial intelligence and virtual reality to improve surgical outcomes. Born and raised in rural Ohio, Dr. Beckett graduated as the valedictorian of Kenyon College with a degree in Biochemistry and highest honors in Chemistry. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Health Sciences from Yale University.  Dr. Beckett completed his neurosurgical training at the University of California, Los Angeles where he was awarded the Resident Teaching Award and the Quality Award.  He completed a clinical fellowship in spinal surgery at Kaiser Los Angeles Medicine Center and then went on to complete a combined neurosurgical-orthopedic surgery fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the world-renown Cleveland Clinic.
