Jacob Deyell, MD, PHD 

Jacob was born and raised in Glendale, CA. He completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, earning a B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering while researching protein misfolding in Parkinson disease. During this time, he realized he wanted a career that combined caring for patients with advancing the development of therapies for neurologic disease, leading him to pursue MD/PhD training at the University of California, Irvine. There, he completed his dissertation in the laboratory of Dr. Albert La Spada, investigating the role of microglia as a therapeutic target in Alzheimer disease. During his medical training, Jacob further developed his passion for teaching and mentorship through working with medical students in physiology and neuroscience education. Now at UCLA, he is excited to continue pursuing his interests in neurodegenerative disease and translational research. Outside of the hospital, he can be found running at the beach, cheering on the Los Angeles Kings, and trying new restaurants with friends and family.
